Jolynn Chappell’s Story

Jolynn has always been fascinated with animals and nature. When she was a little girl her family would visit their cabin in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. She would venture out into the forest exploring all that nature had to offer. Just being out in nature she would find such a sense of peace and a feeling of belonging.

Jolynn would also bring home injured birds and animals and try to nurse them back to health. This continued into her adult life when she had a wildlife rehabilitation license and would have quite an assortment of birds such as robins, kestrels, magpies, crows and several baby bunnies that she, with the assistance of her 3 year old son, would nurture back to health and if successful, release back into the wild.

This eventually led to her career as a veterinarian. She worked with small animals, birds, reptiles and small mammals such as rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs and sugar gliders.

After almost 30 years of a successful career she retired and along with her husband and their menagerie of animals moved to southern Colorado.

A good friend, client and an amazing artist had offered to teach her how to sculpt birds many years ago but she couldn’t juggle something else with the career, family and business at that time. Once she was about to retire, she took her friend up on her generous offer- 20 years later- and she has discovered such a fascinating new journey! Jolynn has completely fallen in love with the art of sculpting bronze pieces as well as all the wonderful people she encounters in this new adventure!

Her knowledge of the anatomy of her many subjects comes in quite handy when creating a piece. This is also awakening her imagination and creativity and she is so thrilled to have found another wonderful adventure in this life journey!
